About Gstaad
With its top hotels, gourmet restaurants, luxury chalets and nearby Saanen airport, the car-free resort of Gstaad is a popular destination for international celebrities. However with five different ski areas, it makes for a fantastically varied resort to visit. Gstaad offers skiers and snowboarders 200km of pistes up to 3000 metres. 80% of the slopes range from easy to moderate, making this a wonderful choice for beginners and families. There are several snowparks and numerous toboggan runs as well as 42km of trails for classic and skating style cross-country skiing. There are about 185km of winter walking trails. Winter biking, also known as fat biking, is becoming increasingly popular in Gstaad. Gstaad also offers Bavarian curling in the centre. Guests can also enjoy glacier and heli-skiing. Up on the mountain, the ski areas offer something for everyone. The largest at Rinderberg has some great wooded terrain, Eggli offers some fantastic open slopes and with the Glacier 3000, Gstaad is home to one of the most snow sure ski areas in Switzerland.
The village itself has traditional chalet-style architecture and historic houses, some of which date back to the 14th century. The centre is car-free and has an excellent selection of designer shops. A tour by horse and carriage is the better way to explore the area. Take a tour around Lake Lauenen in a carriage pulled by a Freiberger horse.
